URGENT! We Need Your Help! Oppose the Forced Landmarking of the Cathedral!
Dear Friends of the Cathedral,
If you feel so inclined, consider writing a letter objecting to the landmarking of the Cathedral. If you do not wish to write your own letter, consider using the following:

Dear Chairman Tierney,
I am writing to register my strong objection to any attempts to landmark the Russian Orthodox Christian Cathedral of the Holy Virgin Protection on East 2nd Street (between 1st and 2nd Avenues) in Manhattan.
The 2nd Street Cathedral building is hardly more special than thousands of other temples in the New York City area, many older, and much larger. Will they all be landmarked?
Please don’t levy additional burdens of landmarking on a struggling worship community by pushing forward with this new interference, which threatens to force diversion of our stretched resources to serve an external vision of architectural preservation. This could lead to the Cathedral being forced to eventually cut the pay or benefits of its already meagerly paid staff, or their being forced to downsize, adding to the rolls of the unemployed and uninsured in our community. Even worse, it could eventually lead to the parish being unable to make necessary ongoing repairs due the the stringent guidelines of the LPC, causing the building to slowly decay, and possibly be sold and converted from a community space church to condos or coops.
Yours truly, in Christ,
