PRAYERS FOR UKRAINE

What began in November, 2013 as a peaceful, powerful protest, dubbed the Euromaidan Movement, characterized by prayer and song led by Jewish, Orthodox, and Catholic clergy, turned violent, with government riot forces wounding many and killing over 100 protesting Ukrainians, the enactment of oppressive laws to suppress freedom, and nationalist extremists taking advantage of the chaos for their own purposes.

After the revelation of high crimes against humanity and murder of citizens on the command of its ousted and disgraced President, a newly elected government is facing military actions from a bellicose Russia, who has unlawfully occupied and annexed Crimea, and the ongoing program of it's arming of terrorist insurgents, the bombing of Mariupol and other areas, and threats of further illegal incursions into the Eastern Ukraine, Moldova and elsewhere.

We pray for peace, and for the right of self-determination for the sovereign nation of Ukraine and all of the countries bordering an increasingly hostile, belligerent and violent Russian government.

Let us pray to the Lord. Lord, have mercy.

“O Lord God Almighty, the God of our Fathers, we beseech Thee for the people of Ukraine who are now struggling for justice, liberty and freedom to live peacefully in security and harmony. Grant them all, and especially the leaders of that nation: wisdom, good judgment and discernment to find mutual understanding and respect that would lead to a peaceful resolution of the ongoing conflict; protect them from invasion and civil war; we pray to Thee, O Lord, harken to our fervent entreaty, and speedily show mercy.”

“O merciful Lord and Lover of Mankind, give rest to those who have lost their lives in the struggle for an improved future of Ukraine, and look with Thine all-merciful eye upon the hundreds of wounded. Bestow Thy healing power upon them, assuage their suffering and pain, and grant that they may receive full recovery, we pray Thee, O Physician of our souls and bodies, harken to our prayer, and mercifully show mercy.”
