9/07/14: 2014-15 CATHEDRAL CHURCH SCHOOL KICKS OFF

About the Cathedral Church School

In order for children and youth to enjoy coming to church, there must be incentives and activities to engage their interest, foster meaningful friendships among them, and help them understand that their church loves and values them.

Regular weekly activities are provided for children over 3 years old, and for teens.

Our Classes are based around forming familiar bonds within the church between the children and not a place to duplicate an academic schedule. Children will not be asked to take on any type of academic learning unless they choose to do so. All levels of learning or language acquisition are welcome. They will learn various aspects of the Orthodox Faith, sacraments, church feast days, saints lives, artistic appreciation, and have an ongoing preparation for regular Confession within the church.

Additionally, the Sunday School program will include various events such as service projects outside of the parish, ice skating, joint gatherings and retreats with other kids from around the diocese and area churches, a Nativity play, and parties for the children. All aspects of this program are free.

Regular attendance is appreciated; however, weekly drop-ins are also welcome. Please encourage your child to attend and become a part of the children’s community.

All children over 3 years old and youth of all ages are warmly invited to participate in these activities whenever they are present here on Sundays. The following Groups meet on Sundays (after Communion) for one hour each week:
Group A: Ages 3 - 6 (Basement Playroom)
Group B: Ages 6 - 9 (Right Mezzanine)
Group C: Ages 9 - 13 (Right Mezzanine)
Group D: Ages 12 - 14 (Library Annex)
Teens: Ages 14 and above (Synod Room)

Additionally, planned activities surrounding Christmas, Lent and Pascha (Easter) are quite popular, the Diocese provides retreats and events, and access to various summer church camp programs is available.

We are delighted that you are here and welcome you to participate in any way you can.
