NOVEMBER 5th - MYRRHSTREAMING IVERON ICON FROM HAWAII TO VISIT NEW YORK AREA
The first week in November, our Diocese will be blessed by the presence of the miraculous Myrrh-Streaming Iveron Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos from Hawaii. In June of 2008, the Holy Myrrh-streaming "Hawaiian" Iveron Icon was officially recognized by the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia as miraculous and genuine, and given the blessing to travel to the various churches and monasteries of Holy Orthodoxy. The miracle-working icon of the Mother of God continues to stream to this day. The icon will visit two of our diocesan parishes:
Monday, November 1, 5:30 p.m.
Saints Peter and Paul Church, South River NJ
Friday, November 5, 6:00 p.m.
Holy Protection Cathedral, New York NY
An Akathist Hymn to the Iveron Icon will be celebrated at each location, followed by the veneration of the Icon and anointment of the faithful with myrrh.
For details, pilgrims to the visitations should contact:
Father David Garretson of Saints Peter and Paul Church: 732-257-0102
Igumen Christopher (Calin) of the NYC Cathedral: firstname.lastname@example.org 212-677-4664
Hopefully, as many of our diocesan faithful as possible will take advantage of this opportunity to attend the services and venerate this miracle-working icon. The icon's visit to the Diocese of New York and New Jersey is made possible through the kindness and generosity of the Russian Orthodox Church. Escorting the Iveron Icon will be the Reader Nectarios from Hawaii, who is the caretaker of the holy icon for the Russian Orthodox Church.
