Orthodox History & Culture and Fiction will be the subject of two groups here this September

We will offer a 2-part program, each section meeting once a month on alternate Sunday afternoon. Natalia Ermolaev will coordinate these groups, and all are welcome.

Part I: "Orthodox History and Culture," Our theme will be "Orthodox Luminaries of the Twentieth Century." We'll read works by and about figures such as St. Tikhon Belavin, St. Raphael of Brooklyn, St. Nikolai Velimirovich, St. Maria Skobtsova,St.Grigol Peradze, Archbishop Iakovos Koukouzis, Nicolae Steinhardt, David Bentley Hart,Alexander Schmemann, Dumitru Stăniloae, and others. These Orthodox writers & figures exemplify the experience of Orthodoxy in the 20th century and represent a mix of ethnicities & backgrounds. Our focus in the Fall will be the period up to & including WWII, in the Spring we'll look at post-War figures.

Part II: A Fiction reading group, focused on religious and spiritual themes in novels and short stories by writers from various traditions, such as Flannery O'Connor, C.S. Lewis, Anton Chekhov, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Georges Bernanos, and others.
